I very simple way to update your home is to change the hardware on your cabinets or furniture.
Anyone can do it with a screw driver and a drill. The drill can be used to change a single pull to 
a double pull. A double pull can be changed to a single pull if the cabinet is painted. 
Knobs come in all varieties and can completely change the feel of your room. You can find them at home improvement stores or all over the internet.
Hardware comes in a wide range of prices. Some can be very expensive when you are changing many knobs.
If you find an expensive one you love - use it in a bathroom or on a dresser.
Glass knobs lend a timeless look.
If you are very creative, buy a wooden knob and paint it yourself.
