# 89 Entertaining Porches

Surrounded by bright colors, stucco walls, and tropical plants, why bother globe-trotting? This Asian-island-inspired backyard oasis is the perfect spot to entertain guests and enjoy nature. An oversize umbrella ties the outdoor room elements together, providing guests a place to socialize in the shade.

A swinging bed piled with pillows and a plush mattress beckons at reading time. A lantern hung above lets learning last even past dark.

Between the seating and cooking areas can be an ideal spot for a dining table. This long table provides ample room for hosting a dinner party. A turquoise-stained concrete patio resembles cool water for an added tropical vibe.

Outdoor dining requires three elements: table, chairs, and shade. A salvaged farmhouse table, metal folding chairs, and a classic table umbrella create a casual dining setup. Covering the table with a tablecloth mirrors an indoor table arrangement, while the crisp white and khaki stripes go with the cool colors of the season. Add a vase full of sunflowers for the perfect summer gathering.

A little ingenuity and a good plan turned this hot concrete patio into an inviting outdoor dining room. A large, colorful floor cloth covers the bland concrete; bright white planters, the sides topped with trellises, surround the space. Overhead, an arbor draped with white canvas blocks the heat of the midday sun but still lets in plenty of light.
